Curriculum and Play Benefits

All groups will have a daily, weekly and monthly planning sheet following a set topic for the month.  All planning is available for you to see what activities your child will be doing and all topics and celebrations are displayed too. 

The curriculum for the over 3s is based around the desirable learning outcomes. We also promote the Foundation Phase and its ethos. We aim to enrich the child’s development in the following areas:

  • Mathematical Development
  • Language, Literacy and Communication
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Personal and Social Development
  • Creative Development
  • Welsh language development

However most of the learning is carried out, by providing different play opportunities, and new experiences.  To the young child, play is learning and so learning is fun!

Play is self-paced and freer than formal learning, but that does not mean it lacks structure or familiar elements.  Often play is simply repeating the same task over and over again, but although it may need little thought, it is not pointless.  Practice turns the behaviour into a skill and makes it automatic.  At other times play is exploring the new, finding out how things work and what needs to be done.  Both sorts of play are essential. It is not only the toys, books or the physical environment that is most important to the child, it is the child’s social environment that really counts.

This is why our staff here at Plantos Day Nursery interact with children on a day-to-day, minute to minute basis that makes a real difference.  Our qualified and experienced staff members are dedicated to the development of the babies and young children in our care and the children’s play experiences are based around their developmental needs. Staff will provide activities to foster the children’s increasing desire to do things for him/herself.  We will have a variety of child chosen activities, and will always allow for, and encourage, determination and experimentation.
